TEiriz - Tell us a little bit about yourself. When did you start to work with illustrations and how this path led you to board games?

I'm an professional illustrator since 2006 and I started with boardgames actually ;) I'm a boardgames player and I had a contact with Bruno Cathala (Mr. Jack, Dice Town) who ask me if I was interested by doing some illustrations for a home made released of Mr Jack which will be published months later.

TEiriz - How many games have you done the artwork for, and in which projects are you working right now?

I'm not exactly sure about the number of games. If I count the games I just made the cover and all the games I have done completely, I think it's around 25 games. Actually, I'm working on two projects, a Bruno Faidutti's game which will be released in 2011 and an other project very secret (sorry ;)) I have two games which are released very soon: Yggdrasil and the Dice Town extension.

TEiriz - Your style varies from the more “serious” or to the more cartoonish, how do you coordinate the line of work for the different styles of board games?

It depends of the game and my mood :) I have the chance to not have a very specific style.. I love to change and discover new things... So I adapt myself to the game, the publisher and th game designers.

TEiriz - Besides board games, do you do illustrations for any other media?

I have done some works for movies (short movies) which are characters design and Story boards. I working for a French museum project and I worked for some comics. But I have to much work with boardgames to really look for something else ;)

TEiriz - where do you get your inspiration and how do you do the research for your drawings?

My inspiration is coming from the comics, french comics, and illustrators.... Honestly, for the research... Google images is my best friend ;)

TEiriz - How do you credit the success of a game to its illustrations? How important they are to the success of a game?

I think it start to be very important. Actually, there are a lot of games... Lot of good games.. If a person has to choose between two good games, the nicer one will be chosen and publisher (at least, french ones ! ;))
begin to realize that. But a beautiful game which is not good is useless.

TEiriz - Which are your favorite games and your favorite games designers?

My favorite games ??! Whoaa... I have some many games at home. I love coop games (pandemic, shadow over camelot, ghost stories...) I'm not a big fan of very abstract games or too serious....  And for my favorite games designers, it's very hard... About the men, Antoine Bauza, Bruno Cathala, Bruno Faidutti, Serge Laget, Ludovic Maublanc are very good friends and wonderful men.... If I have to talk about the game design, it will be a "couple". Maublanc and Bauza will do the best game ever, I'm sure of that ;)

TEiriz - Do you think that board games can be use for an education purpose?

I think yes. It's good for memory, calculating, planification, communication... There are so many qualities in the board games ! :)

TEiriz - What you know about Portugal? Have you ever visited Portugal?

Honnestly... I will be very ashamed to tell you that I don't know a lot about portugal... I never been there....

TEiriz - Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, and we hope to see many more of your artwork in the future.
